Many companies producing software or software-dependent systems think about using Open Source Software. But how will this affect their business? Where in the value-generation chain can they place themselves to keep business running? New business models are needed to address these questions.
By studying and defining methods, development processes, and business models to facilitate the use of Open Source Software by the industry, QualiPSo will help on this front. This activity will identify all circumstances that are relevant for using Open Source in industry: all kinds of ways how Open Source components can be used. Scenarios and business models will be formulated on:
- Open Source usage by industry, including questions of liability,
- Strategies for attitude, cooperation, and dialogue between industry and Open Source communities
- Hybrid solutions (products), from SMEs and big industry, comprising Open Source products and services around these products.
As a result, this activity will identify good practices and success factors to develop viable « Business models » for applications using Open Source components.
